Cornflower Extract
Centaurea cyanus L. is an annual or biennial herb of the genus Centaurea in the family Asteraceae. It is also known as blue hibiscus, wheel flower, and blue-flowered centaurea [2-3]. Cornflowers are about 30 to 70 centimeters tall, upright, branching from the middle, and rarely unbranched. All the stems and branches are grayish-white and covered with thin spider filamentous curly hairs. The basal leaves and lower stem leaves are long elliptic-oblanceolate or lanceolate, undivided, with entire margins without serrations or sparsely serrated to large head pinnately divided. There are 1-3 pairs of lateral lobes, long elliptic-lanceolate, linear-lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, entire margins without serrations. The apical lobes are larger, long elliptic-oblanceolate or lanceolate, with small serrations along the margins [3]. The capitula are terminal, with many or a few arranged in corymbose or panicles at the tips of the stems and branches. The ligulate flowers at the margins are funnel-shaped, the petal margins are serrated, and the central flower is tubular. The flowers are white, red, blue, purple, etc. [3] [4] The achenes are oval. The flowering and fruiting period is from February to August
